Workforce Development
The issue of access to a skilled workforce has become one of the key
business drivers for Australian employers and will remain so for many
years. It is a global issue and competition for skilled people will
intensify as countries attempt to ensure that their industry remains
sustainable. Skills shortages are already being felt across a range of
industries and this is forecast to get worse as the baby boomers retire
over the next 5-10 years. In order to remain competitive and to grow the
southern Adelaide economy, it is essential to ensure that we can attract
and return the right people to allow our businesses to grow and develop.
Accordingly, in 2007 the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board
through the Southern Metropolitan Employment and Skills Formation Network
(DFEEST) commissioned the Australian Institute for Social Research at the
University of Adelaide to develop a strategic framework for workforce
development for the region. This report, The Future at Work - A Strategic
Framework for Workforce Development in Southern Adelaide outlines eight key
recommendations, endorsed by the Board on April 4, 2008. These
recommendations are considered essential to drive effective workforce
planning and development in the south.
The Main Report and associated reports are listed below for your
