State Aquatic Centre
The South Australian Government in association with the Australian Government and the City of Marion is funding an integrated, mixed-use development on the Marion Domain site, which includes:
- A State-of-the-Art aquatic centre
- The largest GP Plus Health Care Centre in SA which includes the State's first Community Mental Health Centre.
The contractor, Candetti Constructions Pty Ltd began construction in October 2009 and the development is on schedule for the facilities to open in early 2011.
Fast facts:
- The total area of the Marion Domain site is approximately 26,400 square metres
- The State Aquatic Centre building will have a footprint area of approximately 10,000 square metres comprising four levels
- The combined floor space of the GP Plus Health Care Centre and Community Mental Health Centre is about 7,500 square metres over four levels
- The Marion Domain development will link to public transport in the area through a central community plaza connecting Warracowie Way with Morphett Road
- The new facilities on the Marion Domain site will be accessible to people with a disability
- Approximately 560 car parks will be provided across the site in the multi-deck car park, underground and on ground level. Car parking will be provided for people with a disability
- Up to 1,500 cubic metres of concrete has been poured on a weekly basis during the structural building works
- Currently on site there are appoximately 150 workers each day.
