The Board
Recognising the need for the business community to take ownership of the push to grow the economy, the Cities of Marion and Onkaparinga have invited a cross section of business leaders to form the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board. Chaired by Tom Phillips, the Board comprises:

Tom Phillips

Tom Phillips began his 30 years experience of the Australian automotive industry in the mid 1960's, working at General Motors-Holdens. At GMH he worked in a variety of roles before moving to the Toyota Motor Corporation Australia where he worked in the regional office, retail, sales and parts and operations. Prior to joining Mitsubishi Motors, he was Toyota's Director of Sales and Marketing based in Sydney.
Tom was Managing Director/President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Australia from June 2000 to June 2005. He is currently Chair of the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board. Tom is married with three children and when he's not working enjoys reading, rugby and golf.

Professor Michael N Barber
Flinders University » Vice-Chancellor and President
Professor Michael Barber was appointed as Vice-Chancellor and President of Flinders University on 1 January 2008. As Vice-Chancellor he is keen to broaden Flinders University's existing positive relationship with its various stakeholders. In particular Professor Barber is keen to enhance the University's contribution to the 'new South Australia'.
Professor Barber has extensive university experience including a period as Dean of the Faculty of Science at Australian National University and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of Western Australia. Before being appointed as Vice-Chancellor at Flinders University, Professor Barber was Executive Director, Science and Planning and Group Executive, Information, Manufacturing and Minerals at CSIRO.
Throughout his academic career, Professor Barber has been an advisor on science and research to numerous government and industry agencies, both in Australia and overseas. He was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 1992 and served as Secretary, Science Policy from 2001 until 2005.

Professor Anne Edwards
Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board » Member
Professor Edwards recently retired as Vice-Chancellor of Flinders University. Her previous appointments included: Deputy Vice-Chancellor Flinders University; Professor of Sociology at Monash University; and positions of Head of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology and Associate Dean in the Faculty of Arts. Professor Edwards holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a PhD from the University of London and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences. Professor Edwards is currently a member of the Australian Universities Teaching Committee and a member of the Board of the Australian Vice-Chancellor's Committee (2002-2003). She was a member of the Australian Research Council (1994-1997), and Deputy Chair (1997). Professor Edwards was also a member of the Victorian Casino and Gaming Authority (1993 to 2000), and Deputy Chair and Chair of the Authority's Research Committee (1994). In 2000 she was a member of the South Australian Film Corporation Board and she became the Chair of the Board of the Adelaide Central School of Art. She is a founding trustee of the South Australian Women's Trust.

Pip Forrester
Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board » Member
Until recently, owner and manager of the multi-award winning Salopian Inn restaurant in McLaren Vale, Pip Forester is passionate about good food based on fresh, seasonal and regional produce. Her commitment to the importance of using, promoting and developing local produce and a regional food culture are the reasons behind her role in founding the Fleurieu Peninsula Food Group and becoming the organisation’s founding Chairperson. Pip is Deputy Chair of McLaren Vale Grape, Wine and Tourism and a member of the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board. She also serves on the Minister for Tourism’s Round Table and the Food and Wine Tourism Working Party reporting to the Round Table.
Pip is currently General Manager of the Chapel Hill Winery Gourmet Retreat in McLaren Vale, a residential cooking school designed for both business and private groups to experience the challenges that a kitchen can present or the fun of an interactive wine and food experience in a spectacular vineyard and winery location.

Allen Bolaffi
Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board » Member
Allen is a Chartered Accountant and business adviser with a special interest in Southern Adelaide.
His work includes providing strategic and operational advice to both the Local Government and business sector in the area of governance and operational efficiency.
He is a independent member of several public sector boards and a director of a number of private sector companies.

Norm Doole
Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board » Member
Norm Doole was born and educated in Canada. Most of his career has been spent in banking and finance having worked in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Hong Kong, Tokya and Sydney. Currently Norm is in the wine industry as director of Dowie Doole Wine, Boars Rock Winery and Chapel Hill Wines. He is also Chairman of the Willunga Basin Water Commission.
